Chapter VII

Our Church Gets A Face Lift

My message was to turn Christianity around, by DOING THE RIGHT THING every day, as if God were sitting right next to you. And I think I was winning, due to the number of new members showing up week after week. My message was getting out there. I was elated! It was time to expand and make room for 200 more seats, you see, we were at standing room only now. It was time! Plus, David and Aurora had done amazing work on the outside, the garden looked like it belonged to a European castle. Everyone who attended our little church was proud, and rumor has it, David’s business was blowing up due to the beautiful job he had done at the church.

He now had 2 trucks and I was so moved, as he hired two young men who he met panhandling in the same place where I found him and his wife. He turned out to be a real blessing to our church. For some reason he keeps thanking me, and I need to be thanking him, and of course God. He agrees with thanking God. It’s nice to hear. Plus, they now have a son, Tyler. I think he will be the boss before you know it. Two years have passed since I married them, and like my own son, also named Tyler, I’m so proud of these kids. I feel all children are lost unless they have a good mentor (God). Don’t you?

Do you remember my friend Matt; he helped David in the beginning, while he was doing the remodel? The church has been in this town for over 100 years, so I wanted to not upset anyone with my plans of growth, so as a church, we all spent time talking about their ideas. It is not my church, it belongs to them, and I must say they were all so proud to have their say. It was the right thing to do. So, here was the plan—I thought Matt was a genius—we will cut off the face of the church, and move it out 100 feet toward the street—the church sat back on the property. Then we would build the new section in the middle to resemble the old church. It was brilliant!

Everyone pitched in with the remodel. We did this in the summer months to be able to have Sunday service in the same church they had for over 100 years. The people of Ashland are amazing people, I am the luckiest man. Thank you, Jesus. I even got to wear a toolbelt loaned to me by Matt, so I got in on the help. There’s something so special, if in your lifetime you get to be a part of raising a church. I knew God was proud of the turnaround in Christians in this small town. Even God Himself was helping in our endeavor, for we did not have one cloud or cold night for 3 months,
